Sit and Receive

Sit and Receive
Day 99 One Year KJV Bible Reading – Deuteronomy 33:1-29; Luke 13:1-21; Psalm 78:65-72; Proverbs 12:25

Sit and Receive
Yea, he loved the people; all his saints are in thy hand: and they sat down at thy feet; every one shall receive of thy words. – Deuteronomy 33:3

To me, this is a beautiful picture of God and His children. He loves His children and cares for them, provides for them. His children sit at His feet, listen to His Words, and receive all they need. Doesn’t that remind you of Mary, who sat at Jesus’ feet listening to Him talk while her sister Martha cooked and cleaned? Martha complained that Mary wasn’t helping. And what did Jesus say of Mary? He said She has chosen the good part.

Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and her his word. But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? Bid her therefore that she help me. And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou are careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. – Luke 10:38-42

God still wants us to choose to sit down at His feet and receive from His Words. God still wants us to choose Him and those things He wants to share with us above all the cares of this world. Why? Because:

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. – John 6:63

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. – Hebrews 4:12

But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. – Matthew 4:4

The Kingdom of God
Then said he, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I resemble it? It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his garden; and it grew, and waxed a great tree; and the fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it. And again he said, Whereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God? It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.
 – Luke 13:18-21

The Kingdom of God might now look like much in its beginning, but as it grows day after day, year after year, it becomes a great tree and leavened dough – evident in His power and useful for His purposes.

He Feeds and Guides
So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands
. – Psalm 78:72

It is encouraging to know that God will feed me with the integrity of His heart, and He will guide me with the skillfulness of His Hands. He pours into me that I may then be His vessel. Then He can use me to feed and teach others what I have seen and learned from Him.

A Good Word
Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.
 – Proverbs 12:25

This verse is a reminder that my words can weigh someone else’s heart down or my words can lift them up. Choose wisely every word that you speak.
